I guess if I had to examine the psychology behind my feelings of kinship with the characters of "X-Men", I would have to say that it is because we shared the common bond of being outside the scope of "normal" as society defined it. The comparison could definitely be made that having secret powers and having to hide them to fit in with the rest of humanity is sort of like being gay. In some ways, I felt empathy and compassion for others that had to always be on guard and hide who and what they were.
My most recent revelation, as it were, was that there was a whole hidden level of comics that I was subconciously attracted to. I mean, if I had ever looked at it logically, I would have realized that comics filled the necessary cravings of an adolescent boy that porn fills for adults. I mean, as a kid, who could I develop crushes on? Television and movie actors definitely, but you scoured hours and hours of TV and movies to see a shirtless chest, and if you got really lucky, you were able to see some actors ass, but it was definitely scandalous when it occurred.
On the other hand, I could pick up a comic book and see all sorts of hot, hunky, buff guys in various states of dress (love those body-hugging spandex outfits) and undress, albeit, never the full monty that I can recall! :) Having made it to adulthood by some quirk of fate, I can look back and say, "Hell yeah, I thought Gambit was totally hot!" or "Superman has a nice ass!". You could even indulge in fantasies about the "bad guys" and get away with it, because some of them were totally hot too, if you put aside the bad case of testosterone poisoning and meglomania!
Anyway, having reflected on it for a bit, I realized that not only were comics fun to read, and the cause of many, many, many erections for me as a kid, they also were pretty good at assisting in the development of the moral compass. You know, good versus evil, right versus wrong, the bad guys always get what's coming to them, etc.
Now that I am an adult, I have a whole realm of possibilities for relieving that certain bent though :) Check out the pics of some of the HOT adult comics and definitely check out the links of the artists' pages!
